Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in developing Ghana's School-based Food and Nutrition Education (SFNE) standards, competencies, and materials. This position involves drafting a manuscript summarizing the findings from a previous capacity needs assessment in school-based food and nutrition education. The consultant will also support the Ghana Health Service and Ghana Education Service in establishing a national multi-sectoral school food and nutrition coordination body. Additionally, the consultant will lead the development of supplementary teaching materials for the existing curriculum and pilot the implementation of the newly developed standardized nutrition education materials in selected schools. This role is vital for addressing malnutrition among children in Ghana and enhancing their learning and well-being through improved nutrition education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop Ghana School-based Food and Nutrition Education (SFNE) standards and competencies.
  • Draft a manuscript summarizing the process and findings of the capacity needs assessment in school-based food and nutrition education.
  • Support the establishment of a national multi-sectoral School food and nutrition coordination body in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service and Ghana Education Service.
  • Lead the development of supplementary and complementary teaching materials for the existing curriculum.
  • Pilot the implementation of the newly developed standardized nutrition education materials in selected schools.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the effective integration of SFNE in schools.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the SFNE program on children's nutrition and learning outcomes.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to education and health officials in the implementation of SFNE initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • An advanced university degree (Master’s level) in Public Health, Public Health Education, Nutrition, Social Sciences, or Education.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience at the national or international levels, focusing on education and the development of age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Experience in providing technical guidance on public health policy and/or education policy in Ghana is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with developing country work experience and/or emergency contexts is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s level) in fields such as Public Health, Public Health Education, Nutrition, Social Sciences, or Education. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the development of food and nutrition education standards and materials.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience at both national and international levels. This experience should focus on education and the development of age-appropriate curriculum, ensuring that the consultant is well-versed in the complexities of educational frameworks and nutrition-related challenges, particularly in the context of Ghana.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as requirements.

The conditions of service will be governed by the contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants are responsible for their tax liabilities and must ensure that their visa and health insurance are valid for the duration of the contract.
