Job Overview:
The Food Fortification Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's large-scale food fortification initiatives, which are essential for improving the nutritional quality of diets in populations. The consultant will work closely with the Food Systems for Children team and external stakeholders to ensure effective planning and implementation of food fortification programs. This position requires a commitment to enhancing the health and nutritional status of vulnerable populations, particularly children, adolescents, and women, who are most affected by micronutrient deficiencies. The consultant will be responsible for providing technical support, developing project timelines, and ensuring adherence to schedules, as well as assisting in the development of social marketing strategies and advocacy programs. The role also involves reporting on project progress and documenting best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and program scaling.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and analytical support for food fortification strategies and workplans.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines, tracking milestones and deliverables.
  • Support internal team activities to align priorities and actions.
  • Assist in the development of social marketing strategies and youth advocacy programs.
  • Review and consolidate progress reports from country and regional offices.
  • Ensure compliance with contracts and agreements related to food fortification.
  • Document best practices and lessons learned for knowledge sharing.
  • Organize meetings, workshops, and consultations to advance program goals.
  • Travel for project-related activities as needed, with an estimated 3-4 trips during the consultancy period. 1
  • Compile and review project plans and reports, providing feedback and recommendations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong technical expertise in large-scale food fortification programs, with 2-4 years of relevant experience. Proven experience in providing technical and management assistance for food fortification projects is essential. Strong reporting and communication skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Experience in food systems work and social behavior change is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s) in nutrition, food science, food systems, public health, or a related field is required for this position.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have 2-4 years of experience specifically in large-scale food fortification programs. This experience should include providing technical and management assistance for food fortification initiatives, demonstrating a strong understanding of the complexities involved in such programs.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not required.
