Job Overview: The Advocacy and Communication Specialist will assist in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating advocacy and communication strategies aimed at raising awareness of children's and women's issues. This role is crucial for strengthening political will in support of UNICEF's mission and enhancing the organization's credibility and brand. The specialist will be responsible for producing communication products and materials that align with the country communication strategy and support regional and global campaigns. Additionally, the role involves maintaining effective media relations and ensuring that UNICEF's story is communicated effectively to a wider audience. Regular monitoring and evaluation of communication efforts will be conducted to ensure maximum impact and continuous improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and execute communication strategies that align with UNICEF's mission and objectives.
Produce communication products and materials in a timely manner to support country communication strategies and resource mobilization efforts.
Maintain and develop relationships with journalists and media outlets across various platforms, including print, TV, radio, and digital media.
Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of communication activities to assess impact and effectiveness.
Maintain a contact list of key individuals and organizations that can support advocacy and communication objectives.
Assist in organizing special events and activities that promote UNICEF's goals and engage stakeholders.
Prepare and share reports on communication efforts and outcomes in a timely manner.
Minimum of two years of practical professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, or interactive digital media.
Familiarity with emergency situations is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality communication materials and manage media relations effectively.
Educational Background: A university degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively communicate and advocate for children's and women's issues.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of practical professional work experience in communication, which may include roles in print and broadcast media or interactive digital media. Experience in developing countries and familiarity with emergency situations are considered desirable qualifications.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of the local language is considered an asset, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities.
