Established to support the transformation towards more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems, FAO aims to promote better production, improved nutrition, a healthier environment, and enhanced livelihoods, ensuring that no one is left behind. The organization operates through various regional offices, including the Subregional Office for the Pacific Islands (SAP), which is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and projects that drive the transformation of food, agriculture, and rural development in the Pacific region. The SAP collaborates with subregional institutions and key partners to enhance biodiversity conservation and socio-ecological resilience against climate change. The Resilient Islands, Resilient Communities project (GCP/KIR/009/GFF) is a five-year initiative funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in partnership with FAO and the Government of Kiribati, focusing on enhancing the resilience of communities and ecosystems in Kiribati.
Job Overview:
The Project Coordinator position is crucial for ensuring the effective and efficient implementation of the Resilient Islands, Resilient Communities project in Kiribati. The role involves coordinating project activities, monitoring progress, and reporting on outcomes while ensuring compliance with GEF guidelines. The Project Coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders, including government ministries and international partners, to facilitate project delivery and sustainability. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills to engage with diverse groups and ensure that project objectives are met. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for organizing meetings, managing project documentation, and providing technical support to project staff and consultants. Overall, the role is pivotal in driving the project's success and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Coordinator will undertake a wide range of responsibilities, including: supporting the implementation of the project and organizing project steering committee and management committee meetings; providing technical support on procurement matters; liaising with government ministries to maximize engagement and ownership; coordinating the hiring plan for national and international staff; developing and reviewing Terms of Reference for affiliate workforce; managing the publication of job vacancies; overseeing day-to-day project implementation and ensuring quality outputs; assisting international staff with logistical arrangements; preparing monthly updates and drafting interim and final reports; updating annual work plans and budgets; organizing and facilitating meetings and workshops; developing training plans; ensuring effective communication with stakeholders; representing the project in relevant meetings; establishing relationships with national and regional agencies; overseeing monitoring and evaluation frameworks; and promoting project outputs at national and regional levels.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Fisheries, Agroforestry, Rural Development, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in environmental, fisheries, or agricultural fields is required, with a focus on project management and implementation. Experience in managing or coordinating international, regional, or national projects related to agriculture and the environment is essential. Candidates must also have a working knowledge of English and Kiribati and must be nationals of Kiribati.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Natural Resources Management, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Fisheries, Agroforestry, or Rural Development. The degree must be obtained from an institution accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant work experience, particularly in environmental management, fisheries, agroforestry, or integrated natural resource management. Candidates should have experience in project management and implementation, as well as in coordinating international, regional, or national projects related to agriculture and the environment.
Languages:
Candidates must have a working knowledge of English and Kiribati. Proficiency in both languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and project partners.
