Job Overview: The position of Child Care Provider for Unaccompanied Minors (UMC) is crucial in the context of the ongoing migrant crisis in Greece. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing daily care and support to UMC residing in designated accommodation facilities. This role involves identifying the educational needs of each UMC, implementing tailored educational and recreational programs, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. The candidate will work under the supervision of the Programme Assistant and Facility Coordinator, contributing to the overall well-being and development of UMC. The position requires a proactive approach to engage with children, develop creative activities, and collaborate with local stakeholders to enhance the support provided to these vulnerable individuals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide daily care and support to unaccompanied minors in the assigned accommodation facility.
Identify the learning levels of each UMC and maintain accurate records.
Design and implement educational and recreational programs tailored to the needs of UMC, prioritizing the learning of the Greek language.
Develop activities that promote the creative use of leisure time for UMC.
Organize educational excursions and entertainment programs in collaboration with local stakeholders.
Observe and monitor UMC during recreational activities, providing feedback to the psychosocial team or designated reference person.
Perform additional related duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree from an accredited academic institution relevant to education and the needs of the beneficiaries. Experience working with similar populations is preferred, particularly in emergency accommodation settings. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and refugees is advantageous, as is experience in multicultural environments. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, personal commitment, and efficiency in their work.
Educational Background: A university degree from an accredited institution is required, with a focus on education or related fields that align with the needs of unaccompanied minors. Accredited institutions are those recognized in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the educational background meets the standards necessary for working with vulnerable populations.
Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant work experience with similar populations is preferred. Previous experience in a similar role, particularly within an IOM Emergency Accommodation Facility, is considered an asset. Candidates should have a background in providing direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees and experience working in a multicultural environment.
Languages: Fluency in Greek is mandatory, along with proficiency in English or French (certified language proficiency required). Candidates will be evaluated on their language skills during the selection process, which may include written and oral assessments. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly IOM's official languages (English, French, and Spanish), is beneficial but not required.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be considered. The appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations.
