Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to provide support to the Intergovernmental Support (IGS) Team within the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA). The intern will engage in a variety of tasks that contribute to the office's mission of supporting Africa's development through advisory and advocacy efforts. The role requires the intern to work closely with a staff member in IGS, assisting in document preparation, event coordination, and providing analytical support on critical themes such as financing for development and climate justice. The internship is expected to last for 5 to 6 months, starting in March 2025, and is structured to be full-time, requiring 35 hours of work per week, although adjustments can be made based on the intern's requests.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties that include:
  • Document Preparation and Event Coordination: Drafting reports, briefings, and presentations, as well as assisting in organizing technical meetings, webinars, and workshops.
  • Conference and Meeting Support: Attending conferences and meetings, and preparing reports based on the discussions and outcomes.
  • Data and Statistical Analysis: Providing data and statistical support on themes related to financing for development and justice for sustainability, including climate justice.
  • Research: Conducting literature reviews and identifying areas for further research and evidence-based policy analysis on the relevant research and advocacy themes.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a strong academic background, either in a graduate program or in the final year of an undergraduate program. This educational requirement ensures that interns possess the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the work of the OSAA.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, any relevant experience in research, data analysis, or event coordination would be beneficial. Interns are expected to demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the dynamic environment of the United Nations.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is considered an advantage. The official languages of the United Nations Secretariat include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.
