Job Overview: The position of IC to Climate Education Advocacy and Teacher Capacity Building is designed to enhance climate education and advocacy efforts within the educational sector. The individual contractor will be responsible for developing strategies and frameworks that support teachers in integrating climate education into their curricula. This role requires a deep understanding of climate issues and the ability to communicate effectively with educators and stakeholders. The contractor will work closely with UNDP and partner organizations to promote climate literacy among teachers and students, ensuring that educational practices align with sustainable development goals. The position is home-based, allowing for flexibility, but it will also involve limited travel to participating countries to facilitate workshops and training sessions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a comprehensive climate education advocacy strategy aimed at teachers and educational institutions.
Collaborate with educational stakeholders to identify needs and opportunities for climate education integration.
Design and deliver training programs and workshops for teachers on climate education methodologies.
Create educational materials and resources that support climate education in schools.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of climate education initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
Engage with local and international partners to promote climate education initiatives.
Provide ongoing support and guidance to teachers in implementing climate education in their classrooms.
Prepare reports and documentation on project progress and outcomes for UNDP and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in climate education, advocacy, or related fields.
Strong understanding of climate change issues and their impact on education.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Familiarity with UNDP's mission and objectives is an advantage.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in education, environmental science, climate change, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, as it demonstrates a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities surrounding climate education and advocacy.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in climate education, advocacy, or related fields. Experience working with educational institutions and teachers is essential, as well as a track record of successful project implementation and stakeholder engagement.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Russian is also required. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the participating countries.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is estimated from March 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025, with approximately 40 working days required. This position is classified as an individual consultant role, which allows for flexibility in working hours and location. The contractor will be expected to submit proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal, and any clarifications regarding the tender must be communicated through the portal's messaging functionality. The position may involve limited travel to participating countries, which will be determined based on project needs.
