Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Programme Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the UNEP's Programme of Work in West Asia, specifically within the Chemicals and Pollution Action sub-programme. This position involves coordinating the West Asia Air Quality Network and contributing to various initiatives aimed at improving air quality management in the region. The associate will assist in updating assessments of air quality management, providing advisory services, and developing materials to raise awareness about air quality issues. The role requires collaboration with member states and stakeholders to implement effective strategies for sustainable development and pollution reduction.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer Programme Associate include:
  • Supporting the coordination of the West Asia Air Quality Network.
  • Contributing to the updating of assessments regarding air quality management in West Asia.
  • Providing advisory services and technical support to countries in implementing goal setting, assessments, training, and awareness initiatives.
  • Profiling existing research centers that can offer advisory services related to air pollution management, including monitoring and emission control.
  • Assisting in drafting a guidebook focused on formulating and reviewing strategies to reduce air pollution, particularly targeting high-impact sectors.
  • Developing and disseminating awareness materials on air quality.
  • Organizing and preparing technical materials for meetings, webinars, and other events, including the preparation of reports and information notes.
  • Performing any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience in environmental management, policy development, or related fields. Languages:

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in UN House, Beirut, Lebanon. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of a malicious insurance plan and are expected to be culturally sensitive, adapting to the local culture and traditions.
