Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will support the Civil Society Unit within the Governance Affairs Office of UNEP. This role involves facilitating the engagement of Major Groups and Stakeholders in environmental policy development and intergovernmental negotiations. The volunteer will gain valuable insights into global environmental governance and the participatory processes that involve civil society in shaping environmental policies. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. The volunteer will be responsible for managing accreditation applications, coordinating stakeholder participation in meetings, and assisting in communication efforts related to Major Groups and Stakeholder engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support accreditation application processing by reviewing and processing applications, maintaining an organized database, and ensuring compliance with policies.
Facilitate Major Groups and Stakeholders' engagement in UNEA and other UNEP meetings by coordinating participation, disseminating materials, and providing logistical support.
Assist in communication-related tasks by updating the Civil Society Unit’s website, drafting email communications, and responding to stakeholder inquiries.
Organize follow-up activities and briefings to maintain engagement with stakeholders.
Assist in the registration process for meetings, addressing participant concerns, and preparing registration materials.
Design and analyze questionnaires and surveys to gather feedback from stakeholders.
Maintain databases and conduct data analysis to review accredited organizations.
Develop capacity-building programs for stakeholders to enhance their participation in UNEP processes.
Support internal team meetings by sending invitations and taking attendance.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a keen attention to detail. Proficiency in using online tools for data management and communication is essential. The ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment and engage effectively with various stakeholders is crucial. Familiarity with environmental issues and policies will be an advantage, as well as experience in organizing events or meetings.
Educational Background: A degree in environmental science, public policy, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant coursework or certifications in stakeholder engagement or environmental governance will be considered favorably.
