Job Overview:
The Project Officer for Education for Health and Well-being will work under the authority of the director-general" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Assistant Director-General for Education and will be directly supervised by the Representative of the UNESCO Maputo Office. This role is crucial for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of UNESCO’s initiatives related to Education for Health and well-being, particularly through the Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3) Project. The incumbent will provide technical expertise on comprehensive sexuality education (CSE), sexual and reproductive health, inclusion, gender issues, and school-related gender-based violence. The position requires a proactive approach to identify opportunities for UNESCO's engagement in policy development and programming on health education, ensuring alignment with national strategies and the UNAIDS division of labour. The role also involves facilitating strategic planning, liaising with various UNESCO structures, and supporting capacity-building interventions within the education sector.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide project and technical support for the O3 Project, identifying opportunities for UNESCO's engagement in policy development and programming on HIV and sexuality education.
  • Facilitate strategic planning processes within UNESCO for engagement in health education initiatives.
  • Liaise with UNESCO structures and support programming on health education, focusing on HIV prevention and scaling up sexuality education.
  • Provide technical support to the Ministry of Education in curriculum development and capacity-building interventions.
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts at the country level to strengthen responses to HIV and AIDS.
  • Scale up the delivery of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and support capacity building for educators.
  • Lead the development of teaching resources on gender and social norms transformative CSE.
  • Strengthen implementation through evidence generated from monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning.
  • Support strategic planning and budgeting for UNESCO's engagement in HIV and SRHR programming. 1
  • Ensure timely project implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. 1
  • Represent UNESCO in coordination forums and maintain partner relations with national bodies and development partners. 1
  • Participate in resource mobilization efforts and provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Education.

Required Qualifications:
  • An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in education, social sciences, public health, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in sexual and reproductive health and education.
  • Experience in curriculum development and learning assessment.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree, such as a master's degree or its equivalent, in fields related to education, social sciences, public health, or other relevant disciplines that align with the responsibilities of the position.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, particularly in the fields of sexual and reproductive health and education. Candidates should have a proven track record in curriculum development, learning assessment, and experience in monitoring and evaluation processes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Portuguese is highly desirable given the location of the position in Mozambique. Additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the local context.

Additional Notes:
This position is a project appointment with a duration of one year, subject to the availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The recruitment is open to both internal and external candidates, but only nationals of Mozambique are eligible to apply. The role offers a competitive salary, with the approximate annual starting salary being 62,215 USD, along with benefits such as 30 days of annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, and a pension plan.
