Job Overview:
The Internship Programme at IOM aims to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in migration-related issues. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The internship is designed for individuals who are either enrolled in their final academic year of a first university degree program or have graduated within the last 12 months. Interns will work at the IOM Country Office for Austria, specifically in Vienna, starting on 17 March 202
  • The internship lasts for four months, with the possibility of extension up to six months. Interns can work part-time (minimum 30 hours per week) or full-time (39.3 hours per week).

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will assist IOM Austria in implementing integration and counter-trafficking projects, which include organizing trainings and workshops. Responsibilities include providing administrative and organizational support, compiling training content, drafting and editing newsletters and reports, translating and proofreading documents (English/German), attending meetings and conferences, taking minutes, organizing events and travel, conducting research, and assisting in virtual trainings. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a strong affinity for IT and be competent in handling virtual events. A comprehensive knowledge of migration and asylum governance in Austria and the EU is essential. Experience working with an international organization is an asset. Strong social and intercultural skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a strong personal commitment are required.

Educational Background:
A minimum Bachelor Level Degree in Political Science, International Relations, Migration Studies, Law, Social Science, or related fields is required for this position.

Experience:
Interns should have less than two years of relevant working experience. This internship is particularly suited for students or recent graduates looking to gain practical experience in the field of migration and international relations.

Languages:
Excellent oral and written command of German and English is mandatory. Proficiency in other languages is considered an asset. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process.

Additional Notes:
The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of medical fitness for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government where applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the internship. Interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment. IOM does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
