Job Overview:
The position of Research Communication Officer is situated within the Research Department of the ILO, which conducts research on labor, employment, and social protection issues to inform policy formulation at both national and global levels. The primary objective of the department is to assess major trends affecting the world of work, including new technologies, demographic changes, environmental and climate shifts, the evolving role of finance, and emerging models of development and globalization. The research also evaluates effective strategies for achieving decent work outcomes and social justice. The incumbent will support the department by developing and coordinating communications through various channels, including intranet, internet, email, and social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The role involves systematic planning and dissemination of communication materials based on the department's research knowledge management system, ensuring a steady flow of informative and engaging content. The position reports to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director of Research.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and editorial support to Research Department staff in developing and disseminating informational materials. Edit, write, or rewrite texts to facilitate the distribution of articles, working papers, newsletters, flagship reports, or other informational documents as needed.
  • Assist the management team and senior research staff in implementing the research communication and dissemination strategy in collaboration with the DCOMM.
  • Aid in the production of audio/video projects by conducting research, obtaining copyright permissions, and organizing audio editing and mixing in close collaboration with the DCOMM. Gather and compile information for dissemination.
  • In coordination with relevant stakeholders inside and outside the Research Department, edit, upload, and present digital content for online dissemination on the ILO intranet, public website, and social media channels.
  • Actively participate in organizing webinars/virtual events, research seminars, working lunches, conferences, and meetings, including via the ILO LIVE broadcasting platform.
  • Contribute to organizing and implementing training and awareness-raising activities for department staff regarding communication and dissemination.
  • Enhance the department's automated research knowledge platform, databases, and mailing lists, prepare the monthly newsletter, and generate monthly reports related to communication and dissemination.
  • Perform other relevant tasks as needed. These specific tasks complement the generic description established by the ILO for this position, which includes researching and developing materials for specific information topics or outcomes, collecting and compiling information for dissemination, drafting press releases, correspondence, and other informational publications, and assisting in the distribution of informational materials.

Required Qualifications:
Education: A first-level university degree (bachelor's or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, liberal arts, or another relevant field. Experience: Three years of professional experience in public information or related fields. Languages: Excellent command of one of the ILO's working languages (English, French, Spanish) and practical knowledge of a second working language of the Organization. Knowledge of a third working language would be an advantage. Skills: In addition to the essential ILO competencies, this position requires excellent writing skills, good interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to tailor messages to culturally diverse audiences, knowledge of the organization's mandate and program of activities, strong analytical skills, good knowledge of computer applications for information collection, management, and dissemination, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment while demonstrating gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory behavior and attitudes.

Educational Background:
A first-level university degree (bachelor's or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, liberal arts, or another relevant discipline is required for this position.

Experience:
The position requires three years of professional experience in public information or related fields, demonstrating a solid understanding of communication strategies and practices.

Languages:
Candidates must have an excellent command of one of the ILO's working languages (English, French, Spanish) and practical knowledge of a second working language. Knowledge of a third working language would be considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's profile for the position.
