Established as a subsidiary of FAO's Regional Office for Africa (RAF), SFE operates in eight countries: Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Uganda, and Eritrea. Job Overview: The Project Officer (Project Manager) will play a crucial role in coordinating the EU-funded 'Pastoralism and Livestock Adaptation to Climate Change in Eastern Africa Programme' (PLACE). This position requires collaboration with various country teams to implement FAO RTEA's priority areas for building resilience in Eastern Africa. The Project Officer will be responsible for conducting research, analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis, and providing project-related services to support the delivery of the programme. The role emphasizes the importance of understanding food crises, preparing for and responding to crises, and making transformative investments to enhance resilience and food security in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Officer will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including researching and analyzing technical issues related to the development and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects. They will produce technical information, data, and documents, and provide technical support for assessments and studies. The officer will collaborate in developing improved tools and systems, oversee database updates, and participate in multidisciplinary teams. They will also provide technical backstopping for capacity development activities, promote knowledge sharing at international meetings, and perform other duties as required. Specific functions include managing relationships with regional partners and donors, supporting policy design and implementation, and enhancing public and private sector capacities in the region.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in political sciences, business administration, agricultural economics, development economics, rural sociology, food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of five years of relevant experience in technical cooperation activities, policy advice, and analysis related to food and nutrition security, agriculture, and rural development is required. Candidates should also demonstrate proficiency in English and intermediate knowledge of another official FAO language.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree is required, with fields of study including political sciences, business administration, agricultural economics, development economics, rural sociology, food security, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of food security and rural development in the Eastern Africa context.
Experience: The position requires at least five years of relevant experience in technical cooperation activities, policy advice, and analysis related to food and nutrition security, agriculture, and rural development.
