Job Posting Organization:
UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) is the lead UN agency focused on delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. Established in 1969, UNFPA operates in over 150 countries and has a workforce of approximately 4,000 employees. The organization is committed to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls. UNFPA's strategic plan for 2022-2025 emphasizes three transformative results: ending preventable maternal deaths, ending unmet need for family planning, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices. The organization aims to build forward better in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, ensuring that women and girls have access to essential health services and rights.

Job Overview:
The International Consultant will play a crucial role in developing and facilitating workshops aimed at strengthening the capacities of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in engaging men to promote gender equality and address gender-based violence (GBV). This position involves collaboration with national experts and requires the consultant to conduct two workshops in Kazakhstan, specifically in Astana and Almaty. The workshops will focus on equipping participants with the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools to challenge and change discriminatory gender norms and stereotypes. The consultant will also support a team leader in coordinating a regional workshop that addresses discriminatory gender social norms across Central Asian countries. The overarching goal is to foster a gender-transformative approach that recognizes the deep-rooted social norms contributing to GBV and to empower participants to become advocates for change within their communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks: 1) Develop and facilitate two three-day workshops for CSOs on engaging men in promoting gender equality and changing social norms related to GBV. This includes reviewing existing documents, creating a Concept Note and Agenda, preparing presentation materials, and ensuring the content is contextually relevant. 2) Facilitate discussions and provide a safe space for participants to explore personal and professional challenges related to men's involvement in GBV prevention. 3) Support a team leader in coordinating a three-day regional workshop focused on addressing discriminatory gender norms, which includes reviewing relevant literature, developing workshop materials, and facilitating sessions. 4) Prepare detailed reports on workshop outcomes, integrating feedback from participants to assess the effectiveness of the workshops and identify areas for improvement.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess extensive experience (at least 10 years) in gender equality, gender-based violence, and addressing discriminatory gender norms. They should have a proven track record in developing training materials related to GBV issues, gender equality, and positive masculinity. Experience in creating situation analyses, strategies, and policy documents focused on the involvement of men and boys in promoting gender equality is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a deep understanding of the sexual and gender-based violence agenda, particularly in the context of Central Asian countries, and have experience working with UN agencies or international organizations on similar assignments.

Educational Background:
A higher education degree in humanities or a related field is required, with a master's degree being an advantage. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of gender issues and social norms.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of relevant experience in the fields of gender equality, gender-based violence, and the involvement of men in promoting gender equality. Candidates should have a history of working on similar projects and assignments, demonstrating their ability to engage with diverse audiences and facilitate impactful workshops.

Languages:
Proficiency in Russian is mandatory, while knowledge of English is considered an advantage. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages is crucial for facilitating workshops and engaging with participants from various backgrounds.

Additional Notes:
This position is likely to be a consultancy role with a specific contract duration tied to the completion of the workshops. The consultant will be expected to work full-time during the workshop periods and may need to travel between Astana and Almaty. UNFPA promotes a diverse and inclusive work environment, encouraging applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including women, LGBTQIA+ community members, and persons with disabilities. The organization emphasizes gender parity and equal opportunities in recruitment and training.
