Job Overview:
The Reviser will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of translations produced by the Chinese Translation Section. This position involves revising translations across a wide range of subjects relevant to the United Nations, ensuring that the translations meet the required standards of quality and efficiency. The Reviser will also be responsible for translating texts on a self-revising basis, particularly those that require specialized knowledge and proficiency. The role demands a high level of engagement with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and the development of new terminology when necessary. The Reviser will also provide guidance and support to other translators, participate in setting terminology standards, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the translation process. This position requires the ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and maintain a high output of work while ensuring accuracy and consistency in translations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Reviser will be responsible for the following duties: revising translations on a broad range of subjects, translating texts while meeting workload standards, utilizing CAT tools, developing new terminology, conducting linguistic research, assisting and counseling translators, participating in terminology standard setting, maintaining output speed and volume, supervising small groups of translators, acting as Programming Officer when required, collecting and analyzing data for insights, and performing other related duties as necessary. The role requires a commitment to high standards of professionalism and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Additionally, passing the relevant combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Chinese Translators or a similar examination is required. The position demands a perfect command of Chinese as the main language, along with excellent knowledge of English, as tested by the relevant examination. Knowledge of another United Nations official language is desirable.

Educational Background:
A first-level degree from a recognized university or equivalent institution is mandatory for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that candidates have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform the duties required effectively.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience in translation, editing, or related fields. Out of this experience, three years should be in a multilingual setting, with at least three years of translation experience within the United Nations Common System or a similar international organization being desirable. Experience with CAT tools and translation of subjects relevant to the UN, particularly legal, economic, or technical documents, is also preferred.

Languages:
A perfect command of Chinese is required, as it must be the candidate's main language. Excellent knowledge of English is also necessary, as demonstrated by passing the relevant United Nations language competitive examination. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset.
