Job Overview: The position of Advisory Technical Group Expert in Prosthetics and Orthotics is crucial for ATscale, which seeks to expand its expert roster to enhance its strategic and technical capabilities in assistive technology. The incumbent will provide independent advice on various aspects of ATscale's work, including priority setting, annual work planning, and country engagements. The role emphasizes the importance of geographical representation, gender balance, and the inclusion of individuals with lived experiences of disability. The expert will work closely with a diverse group of technical professionals to ensure that assistive technology initiatives are effectively implemented and aligned with ATscale's mission to improve access to assistive technology for millions of people in need.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for providing strategic and technical advice on setting priorities in alignment with ATscale’s goals, identifying gaps in the assistive technology sector, and developing sector-wide strategies. They will also strengthen the capacity of country implementing partners, develop ATscale’s annual work plan, and scope possible interventions. Participation in consultative meetings and the evaluation of proposals against established criteria will be key responsibilities. The expert will also be involved in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of ATscale’s initiatives, ensuring that they meet the required standards and effectively address the needs of the target populations. Travel may be required for in-person meetings or reviews, and the incumbents will be compensated based on their days worked.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Masters or above) in rehabilitation or a related field, with a Bachelor's degree considered acceptable if combined with additional relevant work experience. A minimum of 7 years of experience in assistive technology, particularly in public health, rehabilitation, or disability sectors, is required. Proven experience in prosthetic and orthotic policies and services, especially in low- and middle-income countries, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong track record in providing technical advice, engaging with government stakeholders, and familiarity with disability rights and inclusion frameworks. Proficiency in technical writing and documentation, along with a strong publication record, is also required.
Educational Background: An advanced degree (Masters or above) in fields such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, or rehabilitation medicine is required. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in these fields combined with 2 years of relevant work experience may be accepted. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in assistive technology and rehabilitation practices.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 7 years of combined experience in assistive technology, with a focus on public health, rehabilitation, and disability sectors. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in prosthetic and orthotic services, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Experience in international development, humanitarian aid, or working with UN organizations or NGOs in rehabilitation is highly desirable. Familiarity with large-scale health or education programs and engagement with government stakeholders is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in diverse settings.
Additional Notes: The contract type for this position is an Individual Contractor Agreement (ICA) on a retainer basis, with an initial duration of one year, subject to renewal based on performance and funding availability.
