Job Overview:
The Education Project Manager will serve as the Curriculum and Teaching Technical Lead, focusing on enhancing teaching and learning processes, particularly in accelerated education and continuous teacher professional development. This role involves close collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Regional Education Bureaus (REBs) to adapt and implement a continuous professional development framework. The manager will be responsible for ensuring adherence to NRC and donor policies while providing technical guidance to improve the quality of education in targeted schools. The position requires a proactive approach to liaising with various stakeholders, including consortium members and contractors, to ensure effective program implementation and monitoring.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure adherence to NRC and donor policies, guidance, and procedures in all project activities.
  • Collaborate closely with the lead agency, consortium members, and the Ministry of Education to implement the FCDO TREE project effectively.
  • Provide technical guidance to the MoE and implementing partners to enhance the quality of teaching and learning through continuous professional development.
  • Lead initiatives to improve English language proficiency across the curriculum.
  • Develop, adapt, and roll out the continuous teacher professional development framework in collaboration with MoE and REBs.
  • Revise and contextualize the accelerated education curriculum and non-formal learning modalities to facilitate pathways to formal education for out-of-school children.
  • Provide technical support to Regional Leads in implementing the continuous professional development framework and curriculum.
  • Collaborate with MEAL staff to monitor the curriculum and teaching components of the program.
  • Conduct regular site visits to provide technical assistance and ensure effective implementation of curriculum and teaching activities. 1
  • Communicate updates and findings regarding curriculum and teaching program implementation to stakeholders, including FCDO, to support informed decision-making.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in education project management, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development and teacher professional development frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on results-oriented approaches.
  • Familiarity with the education sector in Ethiopia and relevant policies and frameworks.

Educational Background:
A relevant degree in education, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree or higher qualification in education or project management is preferred, as it demonstrates advanced knowledge and expertise in the field.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in education project management, with a focus on curriculum development and teacher training. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations is highly desirable. Proven track record of successfully implementing education programs in challenging environments is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Ethiopia is an advantage, as it facilitates communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a contract duration of 12 months, which is fixed-term and renewable based on performance and the need for the position. The role requires regular travel within Ethiopia and occasional international travel.
