Job Overview:
The position of Statistician within the Agriculture and Resource Policies Division (ARP) of the OECD involves a comprehensive range of statistical activities aimed at monitoring policies that affect agricultural economic performance. The selected candidate will be responsible for the entire statistical cycle, including data collection, management, analysis, and dissemination. This role is pivotal in supporting the preparation of the annual flagship report on agriculture policy monitoring and evaluation. The Statistician will work closely with the Head of the Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, contributing to the development and enhancement of data processing routines and ensuring the accuracy and consistency of agricultural support and protection data. The role requires a proactive approach to statistical development, responding to the evolving needs of users and collaborating with other directorates within the OECD.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Statistician include managing the database on agricultural support and protection data, specifically the OECD Producer and Consumer Support Estimates (PSE/CSE). Responsibilities encompass maintaining and enhancing data processing routines, verifying data accuracy, and collaborating with country desk officers on data-related inquiries. The Statistician will also prepare publication manuscripts, including graphs, tables, and charts, ensuring adherence to corporate standards. Additionally, the role involves providing ad-hoc analyses and written content to analysts and economists, developing documentation on work procedures, and adapting computer programs in languages such as SAS, Python, and possibly VBA. The position requires collaboration with other OECD directorates and a commitment to enhancing data management approaches.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in statistics, economics, mathematics, engineering, or a related scientific field. A strong knowledge of statistical databases and information technology, including basic programming skills, is essential. The ideal candidate should have at least one to three years of experience in a similar role, with proven expertise in applied statistics and familiarity with the production and use of statistics. Experience in macro and micro-level data analysis, as well as knowledge of key areas such as agriculture, trade, and energy, is advantageous. Proficiency in data visualization and the ability to present statistical results to non-technical audiences are also important qualifications.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as statistics, economics, mathematics, or engineering is required. Candidates should have a solid understanding of statistical methodologies and information technology, particularly in relation to statistical databases and programming.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of one to three years of relevant experience in a statistical role. Candidates should have a proven track record in applied statistics, including experience in the production and documentation of statistical data. Familiarity with international or national statistical offices is preferred, along with experience in programming data processing routines and analyzing various types of data.

Languages:
Fluency in one of the two official OECD languages, English or French, is mandatory, along with a commitment to achieving a good working level in the other language. This bilingual proficiency is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the organization.

Additional Notes:
The position offers an open-ended appointment with no predetermined end date, with an ideal start date of July 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. The monthly salary begins at 5,186 EUR, with additional allowances based on eligibility, and is exempt from French income tax.
