Job Overview: The Chief of Party (COP) will be responsible for leading and overseeing the implementation of the USDA McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and nutrition" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Child Nutrition projects. These projects aim to reduce hunger and improve literacy and primary education, particularly for girls, by providing school meals, teacher training, and nutrition programs for pregnant and nursing women, infants, and preschoolers. The COP will manage a team of senior staff, ensuring quality, timeliness, and efficiency in all project activities. This role requires strategic vision and outcome achievement, as well as effective communication with USDA and other stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The COP will provide leadership and direction for the program, overseeing staff, consultants, and partners. Responsibilities include monitoring and evaluation, ensuring implementation of technical interventions, leading work plan and budget reviews, managing team members, ensuring compliance with regulations, and identifying opportunities for growth. The COP will oversee the production of timely reports to USDA, maintain systems for project operations, act as the primary contact with stakeholders, and ensure lessons learned are disseminated. Additionally, the COP will coordinate inputs related to gender and inclusion and undertake other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a discipline related to international development with at least 10 years of experience managing multi-sectoral projects, or a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 12 years of experience. A minimum of five years in a Chief of Party or senior management position leading large international donor programs is required. Proven leadership skills in strategic planning, management, supervision, and budgeting are strongly preferred, along with experience in international NGOs or for-profit contractors. Knowledge of USDA policies and regulations is essential, as well as the ability to develop effective relationships with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in international development or a related field is preferred, although a Bachelor’s degree with extensive experience is also acceptable. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of managing complex international projects and understanding the nuances of donor-funded programs.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of experience in managing multi-sectoral projects, with at least five years in a leadership role such as Chief of Party. Experience should include administration of large international donor-supported programs, with a focus on strategic planning, management, and budgeting. Familiarity with USDA rules and regulations is also required.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Professional proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish and French, is considered a plus but is not required.
