Job Overview:
The Young Associate position is designed for recent graduates who will contribute to the International Energy Agency's (IEA) efforts in enhancing the capacity of developing countries to track energy transitions. The role involves working closely with the Head of Data and Indicators of Energy Transitions within the Energy Data Centre (EDC). The Young Associate will engage in desk research, collaborate with government counterparts, and organize workshops to promote the IEA framework. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about energy policy and data analysis, as they will be instrumental in developing country-level assessments and recommendations to inform climate policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Young Associate will perform a variety of tasks, including conducting background research on innovative methods for collecting energy data and analyzing national data landscapes in selected developing countries. They will be responsible for consolidating and strengthening a network of stakeholders, coordinating consultation activities, and identifying areas for joint proposals. The Associate will contribute to the implementation of the IEA framework for national energy statistics, support capacity-building activities, and guide the implementation of recommendations based on assessments. Additionally, they will organize bilateral and international events to consult stakeholders and promote the framework, as well as manage consultants when necessary. The role also involves providing support for various data activities within the EDC, including energy balances, energy prices, and national emissions data.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree in statistics, engineering, economics, sociology, law, public policy, environmental management, international relations, or a related discipline, with graduation dates between 1 January 2024 and 1 September 202
  • Applications from those holding or enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent degree will not be considered. Coursework in at least two of the following areas is required: economics, statistics, environmental management, international relations, public policy, and development. Additionally, coursework in statistics or applied mathematics is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as statistics, engineering, economics, sociology, law, public policy, environmental management, or international relations. Candidates must have graduated between 1 January 2024 and 1 September 2025, and those with advanced degrees will not be considered. Relevant coursework in economics, statistics, and environmental management is essential, with a preference for candidates who have also studied applied mathematics.

Experience:
The position is aimed at recent graduates, so prior professional experience is not mandatory. However, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders effectively. Experience in research, data analysis, or energy policy would be advantageous but is not a strict requirement.

Languages:
Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages, English or French, is mandatory. Candidates should also have a willingness to learn the other language. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
