Job Overview: The Assistant Economic Affairs Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the Debt and Development Finance Branch by engaging in economic and sector analysis, intergovernmental support, and technical cooperation. Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Economic Affairs Officer will have a range of responsibilities, including:
Assisting in the collection, evaluation, and analysis of socio-economic data related to debt and development finance.
Maintaining databases and organizing non-quantitative information.
Preparing briefing notes and first drafts of analytical studies on development issues.
Supporting the organization and servicing of expert group meetings and seminars.
Preparing inputs for reports to intergovernmental bodies and organizing panels and round tables on debt and development finance.
Compiling and analyzing data for technical cooperation project proposals.
Preparing documentation for technical cooperation programs and projects.
Monitoring and assessing the implementation of technical cooperation programs.
Performing various administrative tasks necessary for the delivery of the Branch’s services. 1
Engaging in on-the-job training activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of economic theories and their applications. They should demonstrate the ability to conduct research, analyze data, and write comprehensive reports. Experience: For candidates with an advanced university degree, professional work experience is not required. However, those with a first-level university degree must have two additional years of qualifying work experience. Relevant experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, and the application of economic principles in development programs is essential. Experience in sovereign debt law and organizing meetings and events is desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an asset and is desirable for this position.
