Job Overview: The Technical Advisor II for Forest Carbon and Market Systems will play a crucial role in developing and implementing strategies that enhance forest carbon management and market systems. This position requires a deep understanding of carbon markets, forest ecology, and sustainable development practices. The advisor will work closely with stakeholders to identify opportunities for carbon credit generation, develop methodologies for measuring and monitoring carbon stocks, and ensure compliance with international standards. The role also involves capacity building for local communities and organizations to engage in carbon market activities effectively. The advisor will be expected to provide technical guidance, conduct research, and contribute to policy advocacy efforts related to forest carbon management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement strategies for forest carbon management and market systems.
Conduct assessments of forest carbon stocks and develop methodologies for monitoring and reporting.
Collaborate with local stakeholders to identify opportunities for carbon credit generation.
Provide technical assistance and capacity building to local communities and organizations.
Ensure compliance with international carbon market standards and regulations.
Conduct research on best practices in forest carbon management and market systems.
Contribute to policy advocacy efforts related to climate change and sustainable development.
Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders and funding agencies.
Stay updated on trends and developments in carbon markets and forest management.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in forest carbon management and market systems.
Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of international carbon market standards and regulations.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Climate Change, or a related field is required. A Ph.D. is preferred but not mandatory. Additional certifications in carbon management or sustainable development are a plus.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in forest carbon management, climate change mitigation, or related fields is required. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Filipino or other local languages is an advantage but not required.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time position based in the Philippines.
