Job Overview: The Health Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing health care activities and supervising MdM programs in South Sudan, ensuring the quality of services delivered by MdM health teams and implementing partners. The successful candidate will be based in Bor, Jonglei State, with regular visits to other field locations and Juba. This role involves overseeing health program quality, managing health teams, monitoring activities and results, contributing to mission strategy, and representing MdM at coordination meetings. The Health Coordinator will also be involved in emergency preparedness, donor proposal writing, and capacity building of local staff.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Health Coordinator will have a wide range of duties and responsibilities, including:
Ensuring the quality of MdM health programs in Jonglei State.
Managing health team operations, including mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (MHPSS) staff.
Monitoring activities and results through data collection, supervision visits, and reporting.
Analyzing health service provision gaps and epidemic trends to inform preparedness and response plans.
Reporting and analyzing epidemiological data, including morbidity and mortality rates.
Representing MdM at coordination meetings with local health authorities and partners.
Coordinating emergency responses with other health actors.
Updating program needs and contributing to emergency preparedness plans.
Preparing weekly and monthly program activity reports. 1
Participating in donor proposal writing and activity progress reporting. 1
Conducting health needs assessments and identifying areas for intervention. 1
Contributing to the recruitment and selection of health staff. 1
Designing and facilitating training plans for local health staff. 1
Ensuring coordination with the MHPSS team to integrate services into health care.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong leadership and management skills, with a proven ability to work in a multicultural environment. They should have experience in health program management, particularly in emergency settings. Knowledge of health systems and public health principles is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret health data and make informed decisions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to effectively represent MdM and collaborate with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: A degree in public health, medicine, nursing, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in health management or emergency response are highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid understanding of health care systems and practices, particularly in low-resource settings.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in health program management, preferably in humanitarian or emergency contexts. Experience working in South Sudan or similar environments is an advantage. Proven experience in team management and capacity building is also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages spoken in South Sudan is an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local staff and communities.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and based in South Sudan, with a focus on Jonglei State. The role may require travel to various field locations and Juba. The contract duration is typically determined by project needs and funding availability.
