Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position within the GEF Chemicals and Waste Team at UNEP's Industry and Economy Division focuses on supporting the development and implementation of strategies and projects related to chemical and pollution management. The role involves analyzing scenarios to develop sectoral strategies, assisting in the creation of chemicals and waste management strategies, and identifying strategies to achieve regional and global goals. The volunteer will work closely with various stakeholders to draft project concepts, conduct data mining for baseline analysis, and ensure project proposals align with UNEP's objectives and frameworks. This position is vital for promoting sustainable practices and ensuring effective management of chemicals and waste, contributing to the overall mission of UNEP.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer include:
  • Analyzing scenarios to develop sectoral strategies and projects on chemical and pollution management.
  • Assisting in the development of chemicals and waste management strategies, including information on waste generation and chemical use.
  • Identifying and prioritizing strategies to achieve regional and global goals by engaging stakeholders.
  • Drafting new project concepts in collaboration with UNEP divisions and regional offices.
  • Conducting data mining to assist in baseline situation analysis for project design.
  • Linking proposed projects with SGD target indicators and UNEP Programme of Work indicators.
  • Reviewing and providing input on draft project proposals to ensure consistency and improve design quality.
  • Editing project documents before submission to the Project Review Committee.
  • Monitoring and analyzing aspects of programme/project development and implementation. 1
  • Identifying problems and recommending corrective actions, tracking follow-up actions, and developing strategies for implementation. 1
  • Carrying out any other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of environmental issues, particularly in the context of chemicals and waste management.
