Job Overview: The Communication Officer position is situated within the Internal Communication and Branding Unit of the Department of Communication and Public Information (DCOMM) at the ILO. The primary function of this role is to create engaging multimedia content tailored for internal audiences, thereby enhancing internal communication and fostering networking events. The officer will also support communication efforts for significant organizational events and campaigns aimed at increasing staff awareness and engagement. This position requires a proactive approach to developing communication strategies that align with the ILO's global communication objectives, ensuring consistency in messaging across various platforms. The incumbent will report directly to the Head of the Internal Communication and Branding Unit and will play a crucial role in promoting an inclusive and respectful workplace culture.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
Producing high-quality multimedia content that effectively conveys important information to ILO staff through various internal communication channels, including the intranet.
Developing initiatives that promote communication and networking among staff, including conducting staff campaigns and surveys to gather feedback.
Organizing and supporting the branding and promotion of engaging staff events such as Town Halls, recognition awards, and information sessions in both in-person and hybrid formats.
Assisting with communications for major ILO events, collaborating with relevant departments and stakeholders to ensure effective branding and messaging.
Supporting campaigns that foster an inclusive ILO culture, focusing on themes such as environmental sustainability, disability inclusion, and the prevention of misconduct.
Maintaining and developing editorial guidelines for the ILO intranet, ensuring content is engaging, relevant, and user-focused.
Editing and proofreading content in the ILO's three working languages and coordinating translation efforts.
Monitoring user analytics for the intranet to assess engagement and effectiveness, providing recommendations for improvements.
Performing other relevant duties as assigned, which may include conducting research, organizing seminars, and maintaining media contacts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced level university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in a relevant field, combined with two additional years of relevant experience, will be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. The position requires at least five years of professional experience in public information or related fields, demonstrating a strong background in internal communication and staff engagement.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, journalism, or a relevant field.
