Job Overview: The Senior Relations Specialist will play a crucial role within the ILO's ACTRAV (Workers' Activities) department, focusing on the Arab States region. This position involves strategic planning, organization, and coordination of activities related to workers' organizations. The incumbent will oversee the work of Specialists in Workers’ Activities across regional offices, ensuring alignment with ILO and ACTRAV priorities. The role requires providing expert advice to senior officials on trends and policies affecting workers, as well as conceptualizing and managing development cooperation projects. The Senior Relations Specialist will also represent the ILO at various official events and conferences, ensuring that the interests of workers are effectively communicated and addressed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate with the Director of ACTRAV to plan and monitor relations work in the Arab States region, ensuring alignment with ILO priorities.
Support the Director in managing and monitoring the work of Specialists in Workers’ Activities, ensuring timely implementation of objectives.
Advise senior officials on policies affecting workers’ organizations and represent the ILO at official events.
Prepare policy-related briefs and documents, ensuring they reflect the concerns of workers in the region.
Coordinate the servicing of the Workers’ Group members and ensure effective discussions at meetings.
Review ILO reports and documents, providing feedback to ensure they address regional concerns.
Undertake missions to Member States to strengthen relations with organizations and provide policy advice.
Recommend actions on personnel and budgetary matters for efficient operations.
Conceptualize and prepare development cooperation projects, negotiating with partner organizations for approval. 1
Provide technical advice to specialists and ensure the quality of project implementation. 1
Contribute to various ILO initiatives and programs, including the Strategic Plan and the 2030 Agenda. 1
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in economics, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">labour law, public administration, industrial relations, political science, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted. Candidates should have a strong understanding of the ILO's policies and programs, particularly those related to workers' organizations and labor issues. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as economics, labour law, public administration, industrial relations, or political science is required. A first-level university degree in one of these fields, combined with additional relevant experience, may also be acceptable.
Experience: Candidates must have at least ten years of professional experience, including significant international experience dealing with issues related to workers' organizations and labor relations. Experience in a senior position is essential, demonstrating the ability to manage complex projects and provide strategic advice to senior officials.
Languages: Candidates must have an excellent command of one of the ILO's working languages (English, French, or Spanish) and a working knowledge of a second language. One of these languages must be English, ensuring effective communication within the organization and with external partners.
Additional Notes: This position is a fixed-term contract at the P5 grade level.
