Job Overview:
The Treasury Assistant will play a crucial role in the financial operations of the UNECA, specifically within the Treasury Unit. This position requires the ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments effectively while working under pressure in a diverse environment. The incumbent will be responsible for handling client inquiries in a professional manner and communicating with various entities using different modalities. The role is essential for ensuring the timely processing of payments and maintaining accurate financial records, which are vital for the smooth functioning of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Treasury Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties including: assisting in the processing of payments to vendors, staff members, and participants; reviewing and verifying payment proposals for accuracy; amending payments that have fallen into exception queues; preparing payments for timely disbursement; creating payment batches for approval; printing checks and preparing bank payment instructions; handling payment inquiries; taking stop payment or recall payment actions; reviewing inquiry messages from House Banks; answering queries from payees regarding payment statuses; opening investigation cases with House Banks for non-receipt claims; following up on bank reconciliation; maintaining business partner banking records; monitoring banking platforms; preparing messages to banks for corrective actions; processing payroll and other payments; and performing other cashier-related tasks as required. The role demands a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge in accounting, management, or a related field is desirable. A minimum of five years of experience in accounting, finance, administrative services, management, or a related area is required. Familiarity with SAP and the new ERP Umoja is considered an advantage. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. However, additional qualifications in accounting, finance, or management are highly desirable and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, administrative services, or management. This experience should demonstrate the ability to handle financial transactions, manage records, and work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Experience with international organizations or in a multicultural setting is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French, another official United Nations language, is considered an advantage and may enhance communication with a broader range of stakeholders.
