Established in 1974, the organization began its humanitarian efforts in Ethiopia with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle. Over the years, SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia has expanded its programs to various regions in the country, addressing the needs of children who have lost parental care and those at risk of losing it. The organization collaborates with international donors, local governments, and community-based organizations across seven program locations, aiming to ensure that every child grows up in a loving, respectful, and secure environment.
Job Overview:
The Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in the implementation of projects aimed at strengthening community capacities, promoting gender equality, and fostering social cohesion among communities. The position requires an individual who is passionate about empowering people and facilitating collective action. The coordinator will work closely with civil society organizations and community members to identify problems, develop solutions, and implement project activities. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of community projects focused on capacity strengthening, gender discussions for women's economic empowerment, and social cohesion. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the implementation of community projects and developing sustainable strategies for their operation.
- Collaborating with tanneries and community-based organizations to design and implement corporate social responsibility programs.
- Conducting community conversations to integrate local needs into development planning.
- Performing stakeholder assessments to identify potential leveraging points within the community.
- Ensuring that gender and protection concerns are mainstreamed across all program levels.
- Establishing and strengthening women-led steering committees.
- Acting as a trainer and resource person for community training sessions.
- Promoting the project through storytelling and public relations activities.
- Maintaining effective coordination with external partners, including government offices and private sector partners. 1
- Ensuring equal participation of girls and boys with disabilities in project implementation. 1
- Participating in child and youth safeguarding training and awareness sessions, and reporting any safeguarding concerns.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BA or MA in Social Science, Community Development, Gender and Development, Social Work, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required, with at least 3 years of experience working with NGOs. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of community mobilization, project coordination, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's or Master's degree in fields such as Social Science, Community Development, Gender and Development, Social Work, or other related disciplines.
