Job Overview:
The Market Systems Development (MSD) Lead will be responsible for driving the vision and strategic implementation of the MSD programme under the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) funded PREVALE programme. This role involves providing technical leadership and mentoring to programme staff, ensuring that the MSD approach is effectively applied to diagnose market systems challenges and design quality interventions. The MSD Lead will work closely with the Consortium Director and other team members to ensure the successful delivery of MSD outcomes, which include improving livelihoods for vulnerable populations, enhancing community resilience to climate risks, and strengthening local markets. The position requires a deep understanding of MSD principles and the ability to integrate these into programme activities while fostering collaboration across various sectors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The MSD Lead will have a range of responsibilities including: ensuring that MSD programming aligns with established principles and standards; leading sub-sector selection research and market system assessments; providing technical reviews of work products; coordinating with various operational teams to support effective MSD implementation; managing the overall leadership of MSD interventions; ensuring timely and effective design and implementation of interventions; supporting the team in adaptive management of the MSD portfolio; preparing high-quality reports in collaboration with programme teams; and providing technical support to team members involved in MSD activities. Additionally, the MSD Lead will manage a team of implementation staff, promote a respectful work environment, and facilitate training and capacity building for staff in MSD approaches.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess at least 7 years of experience in advising or managing MSD programmes, with a minimum of 5 years in senior advisory or management roles. A deep understanding of MSD methodology and frameworks is essential, along with demonstrated experience in operationalizing MSD tactics. Experience with large, complex hybrid programmes is preferred, as is prior experience in Afghanistan or similar environments. Familiarity with FCDO processes is advantageous. Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational abilities, and the capacity to work effectively in a diverse team are also required.

Educational Background:
While specific educational qualifications are not detailed, candidates are generally expected to have a relevant degree or equivalent experience in fields related to market systems development, economics, international development, or a related discipline.

Experience:
