Job Overview:
The position involves contributing to the planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the UN Joint SDG Fund Programme DigiKen – Digital Platforms Kenya. The incumbent will work closely with various stakeholders, including the UN Resident Coordinator in Kenya, the Government of Kenya, and the Delegation of the European Union in Kenya. The role requires ensuring UNESCO's participation in the Delivering as One UN coordination mechanism in the area of communication and information in Kenya. Additionally, the incumbent will support the implementation of UNESCO’s Social Media for Peace (SM4P) project, ensuring alignment with the agreed work plan and budget. The position also involves strengthening the capacities of the National Coalition on Freedom of Expression and Content Moderation in Kenya, promoting UNESCO’s Guidelines on the Governance of Digital Platforms, and identifying best practices for scale-up in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for conducting periodic project reviews with various stakeholders, preparing reports on project activities, and regularly conducting meetings of the project Steering Committee. They will also monitor and evaluate project activities, report on progress, and suggest updates to the results framework. The role includes designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on Communication and Information programmes, providing technical assistance to the Government and stakeholders, and ensuring UNESCO’s participation in UN coordination teams. The incumbent will explore and develop strategic partnerships, monitor activity implementation, and contribute to resource mobilization by developing concept notes and project proposals. They will also contribute to the visibility of UNESCO’s activities in Kenya and ensure that gender equality is integrated into programme activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communication, journalism, information science, digital transformation, public policy and administration, international development, international relations, peace building, or related fields. They should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in communication and information or a closely related field, with experience in programme development and management, as well as advocacy, resources, and partnership mobilization.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in fields related to communication, journalism, information science, digital transformation, public policy and administration, international development, international relations, or peace building. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of communication and information in the context of international development and cooperation.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in communication and information or closely related fields. Candidates should have experience in programme development and management, as well as advocacy, resources, and partnership mobilization. This level of experience is crucial for effectively managing projects and engaging with various stakeholders in the implementation of UNESCO’s initiatives.

Languages:
Candidates must have excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and Kiswahili. Additionally, a working knowledge of French is considered desirable, as it may enhance communication with other international partners and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The position is a project appointment with a duration of 1 year, with the possibility of extension up to 2 years, subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The recruitment is open to both internal and external candidates, but only nationals of Kenya can apply for this post. The approximate annual starting salary for this position is 9,077,797 Kenyan Shillings, and benefits may include 30 days of annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, and a pension plan.
