Job Overview:
The Mpox Vaccination Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the WHO's response to the Mpox outbreak by overseeing vaccination efforts in regions experiencing ongoing transmission. This position requires a proactive approach to developing and implementing vaccination strategies, ensuring that healthcare workers are adequately trained, and fostering collaboration between various teams involved in vaccination and surveillance. The coordinator will be responsible for creating comprehensive plans for vaccination preparedness and deployment, which will include developing training materials and operational tools to facilitate effective vaccination campaigns. The role also emphasizes the importance of community engagement and risk communication to enhance public understanding and acceptance of the vaccination efforts. The coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure that vaccination activities are well-coordinated and that lessons learned from the implementation are documented and shared for future reference.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in creating and distributing plans for vaccination preparedness and deployment.
  • Develop training materials, field guides, and practical tools to facilitate Mpox vaccination in the African region.
  • Conduct training for healthcare workers, vaccinators, and other field staff involved in Mpox vaccination.
  • Foster strong coordination between surveillance and vaccination teams, ensuring access to current contact lists.
  • Enhance Mpox surveillance and support improved contact tracing, assisting vaccination teams in identifying and vaccinating contacts.
  • Strengthen community engagement and commitment to Mpox vaccination through clear risk communication and infodemic management.
  • Oversee and assess vaccination implementation to ensure compliance with operational standards.
  • Collaborate with communication teams to produce visibility materials showcasing vaccination activities.
  • Document key lessons learned and effective practices from the vaccination efforts. 1
  • Support vaccine-related research activities as needed. 1
  • Undertake any additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • MBCHB (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) with a Master's in Public Health.
  • At least 5 years of experience in vaccine preparedness, sensitization, surveillance, and reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of routine immunization and supplementary immunization activities, with an added advantage in ring vaccination.
  • Proven ability to develop training materials and conduct training sessions for healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration among diverse teams.

Educational Background:
The position requires a medical degree (MBCHB) along with a Master's degree in Public Health. This educational background ensures that the candidate possesses the necessary medical knowledge and public health expertise to effectively manage vaccination efforts and respond to health emergencies.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in vaccine preparedness, sensitization, surveillance, and reporting. This experience should include direct involvement in vaccination campaigns and the ability to work in high-pressure environments, particularly in response to public health emergencies.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English. Proficiency in English is essential for effective communication with stakeholders, training healthcare workers, and developing educational materials. Additional languages may be considered an asset but are not required.

This position is classified at the NOB level 1 and is based in multiple duty stations, primarily in regions affected by the Mpox outbreak. The role is expected to be full-time, and the contract duration may vary based on the ongoing needs of the vaccination program.
