Job Overview: The position of Vaccinator is critical in addressing the low routine immunization coverage in the southern provinces of Afghanistan, particularly Kandahar and Helmand, which are categorized as high-risk for polio. The role involves conducting vaccination sessions, developing micro-plans for vaccination outreach, and ensuring quality vaccination services. The selected vaccinators will be responsible for managing vaccine distribution and data collection, as well as providing health education and awareness to caregivers and mothers. The overarching goal is to enhance vaccination coverage and improve child survival interventions in the region, which has been severely impacted by prolonged conflict and inadequate access to health services. The role requires a proactive approach to reach underserved areas and ensure that more children under one year of age receive essential vaccinations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct vaccination sessions in designated areas, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
Develop micro-plans for vaccination outreach, identifying target populations and scheduling sessions accordingly.
Provide quality vaccination services, including the administration of vaccines and monitoring for any adverse reactions.
Manage vaccine inventory and data collection, ensuring accurate records are maintained for all vaccinations administered.
Educate caregivers and mothers about the importance of vaccinations and other health services available to them.
Collaborate with local health authorities and stakeholders to coordinate vaccination efforts and outreach activities.
Participate in training sessions and refresher courses to stay updated on vaccination protocols and best practices.
Report any challenges or issues encountered during vaccination sessions to supervisors for timely resolution.
Maintain a high level of professionalism and ethical standards while interacting with beneficiaries and community members.
Required Qualifications:
Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Laboratory, Pharmacy, or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
At least 6 months of experience in relevant vaccination and outreach health promotion and preventive activities.
Completion of the three-month initial MOPH/NEPI immunization training or at least a refresher training in vaccination is an advantage.
Previous experience working with international organizations is preferred.
Knowledge and experience in medical emergency departments and trauma management will be considered an advantage.
Strong clinical skills, bedside manner, and knowledge of infection control practices.
Ability to work effectively with local authorities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Laboratory, Pharmacy, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. This educational background is essential to ensure that the vaccinators have the necessary medical knowledge and skills to perform their duties effectively.
Experience: The position requires at least 6 months of experience in vaccination and outreach health promotion activities. Candidates with prior experience in emergency and development projects will be preferred. Experience working with international organizations and knowledge of clinical skills, infection control, and health education will be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in Dari and Pashto is mandatory for this position, as these are the primary languages spoken in the region. A working knowledge of English is also desirable, as it may facilitate communication with international partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is for a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance. The role is full-time, and candidates should be prepared to work long hours and weekends when necessary. The recruitment process is open to both national and international candidates, and CTG has a zero-tolerance policy for any fees during the recruitment process.
