The department advocates for universal health coverage (UHC) and collaborates with various stakeholders to strengthen health systems globally.

Job Overview:
The Health Financing Expert will play a crucial role in advising on the strategic implementation of UHC2030 activities, particularly focusing on advocacy and accountability for universal health coverage. This position requires a deep understanding of health policy and systems, as well as the ability to coordinate and engage with multiple stakeholders, including government ministries, civil society organizations, and international development agencies. The expert will be responsible for promoting and tracking the implementation of UHC commitments, as outlined in the Political Declaration adopted at the UN High-Level Meeting on UHC in September 202
  • The role also involves conducting advocacy activities, disseminating knowledge from UHC2030 initiatives, and supporting the planning and execution of related events and meetings. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a commitment to the principles of universal health coverage and the ability to work effectively in a multi-stakeholder environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Advise on the development of strategic approaches for implementing UHC2030 activities, focusing on advocacy and accountability for UHC.
  • Conduct advocacy and accountability activities within WHO and with other UN agencies, multilateral development banks, and civil society organizations.
  • Promote consistent messaging on UHC across various global forums and health partnerships.
  • Liaise with other partnerships and networks in the health sector to enhance collaboration.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and findings from UHC2030 activities through various channels, including social media and the UHC2030 website.
  • Support the planning, organization, and execution of UHC2030 events and meetings.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
  • An advanced university degree (Masters level or above) in health policy, management or financing; public health; or social sciences is essential.
  • Postgraduate training in related fields is desirable.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive and relevant experience in public health, with a focus on health policy, systems development, and civil society engagement.
  • At least three years of experience coordinating multiple partners and stakeholders through health partnerships at national and international levels.
  • Demonstrated experience at the international level is essential.
  • Experience working with WHO, the United Nations system, or other international development agencies is desirable.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree (Masters level or above) in health policy, management or financing; public health; or social sciences. A postgraduate training in related fields is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of seven years of progressive and relevant experience in public health, particularly in health policy and systems development. This includes at least three years of experience in coordinating partnerships and stakeholders in health advocacy and accountability at both national and international levels. Experience working with WHO or other international organizations is highly desirable.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is essential for this position. Intermediate knowledge of French is desirable, as well as intermediate knowledge of other UN languages, which would be beneficial for communication in a diverse international environment.

The position offers a competitive salary starting at USD 77,326 annually, with additional benefits including a variable post adjustment reflecting the cost of living in Geneva, 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
