Job Overview: The Senior Nursing and Midwifery Advisor will play a crucial role in developing and supporting the implementation of programs aimed at enhancing the capacities of Member States in managing their nursing and midwifery workforce. This position involves advising Member States on policies and strategies to strengthen nursing and midwifery services, ensuring that they are equipped to meet the healthcare needs of their populations. The advisor will coordinate technical advisory services, develop frameworks and guidelines, and foster collaboration with various stakeholders to mobilize resources for nursing and midwifery initiatives. The role requires a deep understanding of health workforce policies and the ability to lead capacity-building initiatives that align with international standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support Member States through policy analysis and the development of frameworks for national capacity building in nursing and midwifery.
Provide overall coordination on technical advisory services related to nursing and midwifery workforce policies.
Develop institutional capacity for sustainable results in nursing and midwifery development through strategic advice and monitoring.
Coordinate the design of frameworks and guidelines for Member States, including the preparation of technical reports and studies.
Lead the dissemination of standard procedures and tools for data collection and analysis on nursing and midwifery topics.
Expand WHO's leadership in nursing and midwifery development within broader health workforce strategies.
Build partnerships with technical networks, institutions, and universities to develop training courses for capacity building.
Collaborate with international partners and donor agencies to mobilize resources for nursing and midwifery projects.
Lead information seminars, workshops, and advocacy campaigns to promote WHO's position on nursing and midwifery.

Coordinate capacity-building initiatives related to international standards in nursing and midwifery development.
Required Qualifications:
Expert knowledge of health workforce assessment, policy, planning, management, and regulation.
Excellent drafting skills for producing reports and policies on health workforce and nursing and midwifery.
Proven ability to manage a team and integrate its work into the assigned program.
Strong communication skills to provide expert advice and defend complex issues related to nursing and midwifery.
Sound judgment and decision-making skills to identify key issues and find solutions in complex situations.
Educational Background: Essential: A Master's degree in nursing and/or midwifery, or a nursing specialization or public health with a nursing background. Desirable: A Doctoral degree in nursing, public health, health management, or relevant social sciences.
Experience: Essential: At least ten years of experience in leading nursing and midwifery programs and providing technical advice and policy development services, with demonstrated experience at the international level. Desirable: Work exposure in a developing country context is preferred.
Languages: Essential: Expert knowledge of English. Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of French and Arabic is a plus.
Additional Notes: The position offers a competitive salary starting at USD 92,731, with additional benefits including 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
