Job Overview: The Chauffeur Principal/Chauffeur position at the WHO involves providing reliable transportation services for high-ranking officials and visitors, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protocols. Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive assigned vehicles for official duties, ensuring safety and compliance with UN regulations.
Provide reliable chauffeur services to the head of the office, UN officials, and high-ranking visitors.
Welcome dignitaries at the airport and assist with immigration and customs as required.
Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items as needed.
Perform routine maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires.
Keep vehicles clean and in good working order, noting any repairs needed.
Maintain a logbook of official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
Coordinate with local authorities to ensure smooth vehicle movement in designated areas.
Translate common phrases from the local language to an official language for the office staff as needed. 1
Adhere to all regulatory procedures in case of accidents. 1
Assist office staff with filing, photocopying, and archiving tasks as required. 1
Establish a daily schedule for drivers and vehicles when necessary. 1
Perform any other related tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Education: Essential - Technical or commercial secondary school diploma or equivalent (BEPC, BEP Auto Mechanics, or CAP Auto Mechanics) and a valid driver's license. Desirable - A driving license in categories C or E, knowledge of driving regulations and protocols, a defensive driving certificate, and good mechanical skills. Experience: Essential - At least two years of progressive driving experience with a safe driving record. Desirable - Experience within the UN system or other international organizations, knowledge of VHF and HF radio operation, and the ability to drive armored vehicles. Skills: Knowledge of local driving regulations and ability to perform minor vehicle repairs; ability to read, write, and understand instructions in the working language; ability to prepare concise and accurate accident reports.
Educational Background: The position requires a secondary school diploma in a technical or commercial field or an equivalent qualification. A valid driver's license is mandatory, and additional certifications in defensive driving and auto mechanics are desirable.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible driving experience, demonstrating a safe driving record. Experience within the UN system or similar international organizations is preferred, along with familiarity with operating communication radios and driving armored vehicles.
Languages: Essential: Intermediate knowledge of French is required. Desirable: Basic knowledge of English is advantageous.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment and will be filled by candidates from the local commuting area. The WHO offers an attractive remuneration package, including an annual net base salary starting at XOF 7,290,000, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Employees are entitled to 30 days of annual leave.
