Job Details
Job Posting Organization: The United NationsHigh Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established on December 14, 1950, by the United Nations General Assembly. Its mission is to lead and coordinate international action for the protection of refugees worldwide. UNHCR aims to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees, ensuring that everyone can exercise their right to seek asylum and enjoy it, while identifying durable solutions for refugees, such as voluntary repatriation in safe and dignified conditions, integration into host societies, or resettlement in a third country. The organization also includes stateless persons in its mandate. UNHCR has been active in Colombia, which is significantly affected by the outflow of over 7.1 million Venezuelan refugees and migrants, hosting more than 2.4 million Venezuelans, most of whom are in the process of regularization. Despite the Peace Agreement of 2016, conflict and armed violence continue to displace Colombians, with an estimated 842,000 people displaced again since November 201
Additionally, over 2.3 million Venezuelans living in Colombia have registered for the Temporary Protection Status (TPS) issued by the Colombian government in February 2021, which provides a 10-year protection status and access to a full range of rights, including healthcare, education, formal employment, and financial inclusion. UNHCR supports the implementation of TPS as a promising avenue to address the vulnerability of Venezuelan refugees and migrants and contribute positively to Colombia's economy. Furthermore, Afro-Colombians and Indigenous peoples are disproportionately affected by displacement and confinement events, particularly in the Pacific Coast. UNHCR and its partners work to strengthen preventive actions and respond to emergencies, providing protection and solutions to communities affected by conflict and violence.
