Job Description
Chemonics seeks an early grade reading specialist for the anticipated USAID Early Grade Learning activity in Nepal. This five-year activity will seek to provide technical assistance in the education sector to strengthen the capacity of national, provincial, and municipal government entities to improve learning outcomes for early grade students. This position will be based in Kathmandu, Nepal. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. Responsibilities include:
  • Provide overall technical oversight and guidance to the project on evidence-based learning and reading instruction and interventions
  • Supervise the production of all program supported reading material, teacher training, and other early grade reading products
  • Liaise with subcontractors and staff to ensure the timely production and execution of all quality-related project outcomes
  • Liaise with government representatives at various levels on technical issues
  • Collaborate with other technical specialists to achieve project outcomes
Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in education required; focus on basic or primary education and/or early grade reading or learning preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in early grade education; experience with programs to improve early grade reading is required
  • Prior experience with the development of evidence-based early grade reading interventions at scale and teacher capacity building required
  • Previous experience developing collaborative working relationships with government counterparts, local organizations, and the private sector
  • Record of building the capacity of local counterparts
  • Familiarity with Asia, specifically in the education sector; proven knowledge of Nepal’s education system is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English is required, proficiency in Nepali is preferred
