Job Overview:

Your work will involve operating Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating setups, measuring the thickness and composition of thin films, and performing validation and quality control of coatings. Additionally, you will prepare technical documentation and contribute to the design and assembly of tooling for coating setups, making this a multifaceted role that combines technical skills with collaborative teamwork.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Technical Engineer include operating PVD coating setups, which involves assembly, vacuum pumping, bakeout, deposition processing, and disassembly. You will measure the thickness and composition of thin films using an X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometer and perform validation and quality control of Non-Evaporable Getter coatings. Preparing technical documentation, including reports and procedures, is also a key responsibility. Furthermore, you will contribute to the design, procurement, and assembly of tooling for the coating setups, ensuring that all processes are efficient and effective. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with team members to achieve project goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have experience in vacuum technology and the use of vacuum instrumentation, including vacuum pumps. A basic understanding of materials properties and characterization is essential, along with practical experience in thin film coating, which is considered an advantage. Familiarity with surface treatments and their execution or preparation is also beneficial. Experience in ultra-high vacuum environments is a plus. Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are crucial for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Vacuum and Material Sciences or a related field. Applicants must have graduated within the last two years and should not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract. Those without a university degree or with a PhD are not eligible for this position, ensuring that the role is filled by individuals who meet the specific educational criteria set by CERN.

Experience:
Candidates should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in the relevant field. This ensures that applicants are relatively new to the workforce and can bring fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to the role. The experience should be directly related to vacuum technology and materials sciences, aligning with the responsibilities of the Technical Engineer position.

Languages:
