Job Overview:
The UNV Country Coordinator plays a crucial role in promoting volunteerism and mobilizing UN Volunteers across the UN system at the country level. This position is responsible for ensuring that UNV effectively meets the needs of the UN system and its partners by recruiting qualified volunteers and advocating for volunteerism across various sectors. The coordinator will work closely with the UN resident coordinator and the UNDP resident representative to position UNV within the UN country team, ensuring compliance with UNV and UNDP policies. The role involves strategic positioning, partnership building, and contributing to the implementation of UNV’s Strategic Framework. The coordinator will also engage in collective planning processes and represent UNV in joint coordination mechanisms with government and non-government stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead volunteer mobilization by developing and implementing country-level strategies aligned with UNV’s Strategic Framework. Participate in UN collective planning processes to integrate volunteerism into their implementation. Present UNV’s value proposition to partners and support local talent outreach efforts. Monitor mobilization trends and facilitate missions by UNV.
  • Manage partnerships by building and sustaining effective relationships with UN partners, analyzing country strategies to identify volunteer mobilization opportunities, and engaging with various stakeholders to realize agreed objectives.
  • Ensure Duty of Care by supporting host entities with guidance on successful volunteer assignments, ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of UN Volunteers, and conducting regular field visits to monitor volunteer well-being.
  • Lead advocacy on volunteerism by aligning communications with volunteer mobilization goals, staying informed of national volunteer initiatives, and encouraging volunteers to act as advocates.
  • Manage the Field Unit (FU) by supervising team members, developing annual work plans and budgets, and ensuring compliance with UNDP regulations. Escalate operational risks and ensure effective service delivery within the FU.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) or a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) with two additional years of qualifying experience. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian, development, or peace-related fields is required, with experience in partnership building and management being essential. Experience in advocacy, public relations, communication, programme reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and volunteer management is considered an asset. Familiarity with digital platforms and tools, including CRM and ERP systems, is also advantageous, as is work experience with the United Nations.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in a relevant field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) combined with two additional years of qualifying experience will be considered in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background should ideally be complemented by knowledge and skills relevant to the functions of the UNV Country Coordinator role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a master's degree, or 4 years for those with a bachelor's degree. This experience should be in humanitarian, development, or peace-related fields, with a strong emphasis on partnership building and management. Candidates should also have experience in advocacy, public relations, communication, and volunteer management, as well as familiarity with digital platforms and tools.

Languages:
Fluency in English and the local language of the duty station (Portuguese) is mandatory. Knowledge of other official UN languages is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the UN system and with diverse stakeholders.
