Job Overview:
The E T Consultant 1 – AI Engineer position at the World Bank is a critical role within the organization’s Information and Technology (INT) department. This position is focused on leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making capabilities across the World Bank's global operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying AI solutions within the Microsoft Azure cloud environment. This role requires collaboration with data scientists, data engineers, and software engineers to create intelligent systems that can perform complex tasks with minimal human intervention. The AI Engineer will contribute to the World Bank's digital transformation initiatives, ensuring that AI solutions align with established security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and governance practices. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the AI Engineer include:
  • Developing AI solutions by building and improving features that utilize large language models (LLMs), including prompt templates and structured outputs.
  • Designing and implementing workflows that enable AI agents to perform planning, tool use, and multi-step execution.
  • Building and tuning retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in data processing.
  • Integrating AI solutions with internal systems and APIs to enhance operational capabilities.
  • Establishing continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for seamless deployment of AI solutions.
  • Configuring monitoring systems to track performance and usage patterns of deployed solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with World Bank Group IT security policies and responsible AI practices.
  • Producing comprehensive technical documentation and conducting knowledge transfer sessions to ensure sustainability of AI solutions.
  • Delivering user-facing guides and training materials for stakeholders interacting with AI systems.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field. A Master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of overall experience as an AI Engineer or in a similar role, with a proven track record of working with AI, ML, and LLMs. Hands-on experience in designing and developing AI solutions is essential, particularly with LLMs and RAG systems. Candidates should also demonstrate strong programming skills in Python or other languages, along with experience in API development. A solid understanding of Responsible AI practices and security awareness is crucial, as is experience in deploying solutions on cloud platforms, preferably Azure.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or Software Engineering. A Master's degree or higher is preferred, indicating a deeper level of expertise in the field. Candidates should have a strong foundation in AI and ML principles, as well as practical experience in applying these concepts to real-world problems.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as an AI Engineer or in a similar capacity. This experience should include hands-on work in designing and developing AI solutions, particularly with large language models and retrieval-augmented generation systems. Candidates should have a successful track record of deploying AI solutions in production environments and be familiar with the challenges and best practices associated with AI development and implementation.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the World Bank. While not required, proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in contexts where the World Bank operates in multilingual environments.
