Job Overview:
The Medical Doctor position at WFP involves providing essential healthcare services to WFP and UN employees, as well as eligible dependents and authorized users. The role is based at the EMAT Clinic in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with responsibilities that include delivering evidence-based primary healthcare and emergency care, managing medical referrals, and ensuring compliance with UN Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety standards. The doctor will be expected to oversee clinic operations, provide health promotion activities, and collaborate with other WFP teams to enhance the well-being of employees. The position requires a commitment to high-quality, timely, and compassionate medical care, with the expectation of travel to other WFP offices as needed for clinical coverage. The doctor will also be responsible for managing ambulance services and ensuring the availability of necessary medical equipment and supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Doctor will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: providing evidence-based patient care in line with medical professional standards; delivering primary and emergency care, including assessment, diagnostics, and chronic disease management; managing ambulance services and coordinating emergency care; initiating and processing medical referrals and evacuations; offering mental health support and facilitating referrals to specialists; conducting medical examinations and providing health promotion campaigns; monitoring public health concerns; maintaining electronic medical records; and participating in continuous medical education and training sessions. The doctor will also be responsible for ensuring adherence to UN healthcare quality standards and will perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Medicine or equivalent studies from a recognized institution, along with registration as a General Practitioner in Ethiopia and a valid practicing license. Additional qualifications such as a Master's degree or higher training in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Critical Care are advantageous. Certification in emergency case management (ACLS/PHTLS) is also preferred. The candidate should demonstrate strong clinical judgment, diagnostic ability, and expertise in emergency and primary care, as well as proficiency in medical inventory management and excellent communication skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in Medicine from a recognized institution. Candidates must also have a valid practicing license in Ethiopia. Additional training in emergency medicine or related fields is considered an asset, as is any further specialization that enhances the candidate's ability to perform in this role.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience is required, with at least 3 years spent in an emergency or primary care setting. Experience in managing medical emergencies, trauma cases, and infectious disease outbreaks is essential. Previous work in remote medicine, occupational health, or humanitarian healthcare settings is highly desirable, as it aligns with the nature of the work at WFP.

Languages:
Fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of the local language at the duty station is also required, as it facilitates communication with patients and enhances the quality of care provided.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a SSA10 When Actually Employed (WAE) contract, meaning the doctor will be called upon as needed and compensated only for the days worked. The role is full-time and involves travel to various WFP offices within Ethiopia.
