Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring effective food security interventions during humanitarian crises. This position involves mobilizing and supporting various stakeholders to deliver a coordinated and strategic response to food security needs. The Coordinator will lead multi-stakeholder planning processes, conduct needs assessments, and promote evidence-based decision-making. The role requires strengthening emergency preparedness and enhancing the quality and sustainability of food security interventions for vulnerable populations. The Coordinator will work closely with humanitarian agencies, government authorities, UN organizations, NGOs, and donors to ensure a timely and efficient food security response, thereby contributing to the overall humanitarian efforts in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain the Food Security Cluster/Sector, ensuring active membership and engagement of key partners at national and sub-national levels.
Organize regular cluster meetings and ensure overall coordination of the food response in emergencies.
Develop an inclusive governance structure for the Food Security Cluster, including co-leadership with national authorities and establishing a Strategic Advisory Group.
Contribute to the Humanitarian Needs Overview and Humanitarian Response Plan by managing the process for the Food Security Cluster, supported by the Information Management Officer.
Monitor the food security response, ensuring timely and inclusive information sharing with cluster partners.
Facilitate needs assessments and promote the analysis of data for decision-making.
Coordinate the mainstreaming of cross-cutting issues such as gender, age, and human rights in assessments and planning.
Contribute to contingency planning and coordinate emergency preparedness and response efforts.
Develop regular food security reports and undertake advocacy for resource mobilization on behalf of the Food Security Cluster. 1
Identify capacity gaps and provide training opportunities to partners, ensuring effective collaboration and communication within the cluster.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in food security, agriculture, economics, humanitarian affairs, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in humanitarian response at a mid or senior level is required. Experience in food security topics is mandatory, while experience with inter-agency coordination is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate strong technical and functional skills, including the ability to work under pressure and adapt to complex humanitarian contexts. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential, as is the ability to interact with various stakeholders and represent the Food Security Cluster in strategic discussions.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in food security, agriculture, economics, humanitarian affairs, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of the complexities involved in food security and humanitarian response.
