Job Overview: The Quality Engineer position at EBRD is a critical role that involves embedding quality engineering practices across multiple delivery teams or squads. The successful candidate will be a hands-on quality owner who can effectively manage quality across various projects and delivery priorities. This role requires the ability to rapidly switch contexts while maintaining consistent quality standards and oversight of delivery risks. Responsibilities include API testing, UI automation, CI/CD integration, and defect analysis, all of which are essential for delivering functionality across the Corporate Functions technology landscape.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Quality Engineer will own quality across two or more delivery teams or workstreams. Key responsibilities include designing and executing functional, integration, and regression test scenarios across enterprise applications. The engineer will collaborate with developers, Product Owners, and Business Analysts to ensure that user stories are testable and clearly defined. Additionally, the role involves building and maintaining automated test suites and reusable test assets, integrating testing into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps, and driving root cause analysis, risk-based testing, and continuous quality improvements. The Quality Engineer will advocate for a quality-first approach across Agile ceremonies and delivery teams and identify opportunities to replace manual testing with scalable automation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have at least 7 years of experience in Quality Assurance, software testing, or Quality Engineering. Strong experience in testing APIs, integrations, and service-based applications is essential. Hands-on experience with test automation tools such as Cypress, Playwright, REST-assured, and Postman is required. Familiarity with Agile environments and practices such as BDD, TDD, and Pairing is necessary, along with experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines. A strong understanding of software delivery lifecycles and quality assurance best practices is also required, as well as experience testing enterprise applications built using modern web technologies and microservices architectures. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with equivalent practical experience in software testing and quality assurance may also be considered. Continuous professional development and certifications in quality assurance or software testing methodologies are advantageous.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in Quality Assurance, software testing, or Quality Engineering. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in Agile environments and applying quality engineering practices effectively across multiple projects.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of additional languages is considered a plus, particularly those relevant to the regions in which EBRD operates.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term contract position with a duration of 3 years. The role is based in Sofia, Bulgaria, and offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring in-person collaboration at least three days a week.
