Job Overview: The position of Individual Contractor on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion at ESCAP involves supporting the Social Development Division in various tasks aimed at promoting gender equality and social inclusion in the Asia-Pacific region. The contractor will work under the supervision of the Chief of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section, contributing to significant publications and events that address gender-related issues. The role includes finalizing a publication on inclusive care systems, preparing for conferences, conducting research, and developing materials for workshops and national frameworks. The contractor will also engage in ongoing research and analysis to support ESCAP's initiatives on gender equality and the care economy, ensuring that women's economic empowerment is prioritized in policy discussions and regional frameworks.
Duties and Responsibilities: The contractor will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
Finalizing the publication 'The Future is Care: Visioning Inclusive and Resilient Care Systems in Asia and the Pacific' by incorporating feedback from various stakeholders.
Preparing for the 12th Asia Pacific Futures Network Conference by conducting background research, drafting presentations, and providing logistical support.
Developing materials for a national workshop celebrating the 50th anniversary of National Women’s Day in Timor-Leste, including concept notes and presentations.
Supporting the conceptualization of a national framework for action on the care economy in Timor-Leste.
Conducting research on care entrepreneurship in Asia and the Pacific and preparing substantive written contributions on gender equality topics.
Strengthening data visualization for gender equality outputs and supporting partnerships with the Pacific Community on energy and gender equality.
Conducting comparative research and policy analysis to inform the development of a regional framework for action on the care economy.
Preparing briefing notes and inputs for the Commission on the Status of Women Regional Preparatory Meeting and other regional policy documents.
Providing additional support as requested to align with ESCAP's goals on gender equality and women's entrepreneurship initiatives.
Required Qualifications: The position requires an advanced university degree in development, social sciences, or a related field. Candidates must possess strong research and drafting skills, with at least one year of experience in research and analysis on socioeconomic issues. Previous experience working with UN entities on gender equality issues is desirable, as is experience in the Asia-Pacific region. The ability to conduct thorough research and produce high-quality written materials is essential for success in this role.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as development, social sciences, or a related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender equality and social inclusion issues in the Asia-Pacific context.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of relevant experience in research and analysis related to socioeconomic issues. Experience working with UN entities, particularly on gender equality topics, is highly desirable.
