Job Overview:
The internship is situated within the Global Funds Mitigation and Transparency Section of the UNEP Climate Change Division. The intern will report directly to the Head of Unit and will play a crucial role in supporting the team in the development and implementation of marketing strategies and campaigns aimed at increasing the visibility and uptake of UNEP's products and initiatives across partner countries. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in strategic marketing within a global NGO context, particularly in marketing to public-sector stakeholders and supporting international campaigns and initiatives. The intern will be involved in various marketing activities, including digital marketing, content creation, audience engagement, and stakeholder communication, thereby enhancing their skills in inter-agency networking and stakeholder engagement across a global institutional environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include supporting the development and execution of marketing campaigns across both digital and traditional channels. They will assist in creating marketing materials such as presentations, social media content, flyers, infographics, and other creative assets. The intern will also support digital marketing activities, including social media management, content development, audience engagement, and social listening. Researching target audiences, markets, trends, and stakeholder needs will be essential to inform marketing strategies. The intern will help translate complex technical information into clear, simple, and engaging marketing products and messages. Additionally, they will support the marketing and promotion of products and initiatives to partner countries, governments, and public-sector stakeholders. The intern will assist in planning and delivering marketing activities for workshops, conferences, launches, and other events. They will utilize creative tools such as Canva, Adobe Suite, CorelDRAW, and other digital platforms to develop marketing assets. The intern will contribute to the preparation of marketing briefs, presentations, campaign reports, and other knowledge products. Monitoring marketing and campaign performance and supporting the analysis of audience engagement and feedback will also be part of their duties. Participation in brainstorming sessions to identify innovative marketing approaches and opportunities to strengthen product visibility and reach will be encouraged, along with assisting with the coordination, documentation, and follow-up of marketing activities and campaigns.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in marketing, business, digital media, economics, environmental science, or a related field; (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline with demonstrated experience or coursework in digital or corporate marketing as well as public relations. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, but a field of study closely related to the internship is required. Additionally, applicants must be a student in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams is desirable. Ability to use creative tools such as Adobe, CorelDRAW, and Canva is also desirable. Familiarity with social listening tools such as Hootsuite, Meltwater, or Brandwatch is a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme in relevant fields such as marketing, business, digital media, economics, environmental science, or a related discipline. Alternatively, applicants can be in their final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) with relevant coursework or experience in digital or corporate marketing and public relations. This educational foundation is essential to ensure that the intern can effectively contribute to the marketing strategies and initiatives of UNEP.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a requirement for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, it is essential that candidates have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. This means that while prior work experience is not mandatory, relevant academic experience or coursework in marketing or related fields is necessary to ensure that the intern can effectively engage with the tasks and responsibilities of the position.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, knowledge of French is beneficial, as it is also a working language of the UN. Proficiency in these languages will enable the intern to communicate effectively within the organization and contribute to the marketing efforts aimed at diverse audiences.
