Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is based in the Quality Assurance Section (QAS) of UNEP's Policy and Programme Division (PPD). The intern will work under the overall supervision of the Head of Section Programme Management Officer and the day-to-day supervision of the Programme Management Officer. The role involves supporting the implementation of various initiatives, including the United Nations System-Wide Action Plan (UN-SWAP) and the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS). The intern will engage in activities related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on poverty and inequality analysis, gender equality, and women's empowerment. The position requires active participation in discussions, research, and the preparation of reports and presentations, contributing to the overall mission of UNEP to promote sustainable development and environmental protection.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the Quality Assurance Section in implementing UN-SWAP and UNDIS, focusing on SDGs 1 and 10, including poverty and inequality-related analysis and reporting.
• Assist in mainstreaming gender equality across UNEP programmes and projects, implementing gender-responsive approaches, and monitoring gender-related commitments.
• Conduct research on gender and environmental safeguards, summarizing key developments and trends.
• Participate in discussions, providing insights on emerging issues related to social and environmental safeguards.
• Assist in planning and coordinating meetings and events with partners, including UN Observers.
• Analyze the use of gender and safeguards information on UNEP's platforms.
• Draft impact stories and messages for UNEP's digital communications.
• Monitor and analyze information on the Open Data Portal, preparing draft reports.
• Support community practice and capacity strengthening workshops, contributing to presentations and analysis. 1
• Prepare various presentations using software like PowerPoint and Canva. 1
• Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
A university degree in International Affairs, Financial/Economic, Gender Studies, Human Rights, Sociology, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, or a related field is required. Coursework in gender studies, environmental and social impact assessment, and community health and safety is highly desirable. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate program or in the final year of a first university degree program, or have graduated within the last year. Strong knowledge of standard software applications, including MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS SharePoint, and MS Outlook, is essential. An interest in quality assurance, economic and poverty eradication, and working with vulnerable groups is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field such as International Affairs, Gender Studies, Environmental Science, or Sustainable Development. They should be enrolled in a graduate program or in their final year of undergraduate studies, or have graduated within the past year. Relevant coursework in gender studies, environmental impact assessment, and social safeguards is beneficial.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for this internship, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship. Experience or interest in working with vulnerable groups, including women and children with disabilities, and knowledge of Leave No One Behind (LNOB) principles is highly desirable. Familiarity with software tools for design and presentation, as well as video editing skills, is an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Kenya may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
