Job Overview:
The Statistician position is situated within the Data and Statistics Unit (DSU) of the Knowledge & Innovation Branch of UN-Habitat's Global Knowledge and Advocacy Division (GKAD). The role is pivotal in enhancing the availability, accessibility, and analysis of housing and urban data, which includes global monitoring of housing and urban development in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 11 and the New Urban Agenda. The incumbent will be responsible for developing methods for data collection, ensuring data quality, and conducting analytical programs to support national capacity building. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to foster policy action based on data-driven insights and research.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Statistician include initiating and coordinating the development of methods for obtaining relevant data, advancing digital technology applications for data collection and analysis, ensuring the quality of collected data, planning and conducting analytical programs, supervising the development of databases and web publishing tools, undertaking methodological research, developing statistical methods and quantitative models, providing guidance to other departments, planning and coordinating seminars and workshops, managing the work of the section, collecting and analyzing data to identify trends, and providing substantive support to the Global Urban Data Coalition.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of statistical theories, concepts, and approaches. They should demonstrate the ability to analyze and interpret data effectively, possess excellent drafting and reporting skills, and be able to work in a multicultural environment. Professionalism, communication skills, teamwork, and planning and organizing abilities are essential competencies for this role. The candidate should show a commitment to gender perspectives and the equal participation of all genders in the workplace.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology, demography, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two years of qualifying work experience may be accepted. Completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable.

Experience:
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in statistics, data analysis, or a related area is required. Experience in developing capacity-building projects, conducting workshops, and promoting indicators for policy formulation is essential. Familiarity with urban and housing indicators, as well as experience in applying digital technology for statistics, is desirable. Work experience in multilateral organizations is also beneficial.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations, but proficiency in French is not mandatory for this role.
