Job Overview:

The intern will support the organization's efforts in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, particularly through projects related to the care economy and entrepreneurship. The role involves conducting research and data analysis on critical areas concerning gender equality, assisting in organizing meetings and workshops, and contributing to the preparation of written outputs such as background papers and presentations. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in a UN setting, with a focus on gender issues and social development. Interns are expected to work full-time, five days a week, under the supervision of a staff member, and the internship duration is initially set for 3 months, with the possibility of extension up to 6 months. The ideal candidate should be available for the full duration and preferably work onsite in Bangkok for part of the internship.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting research and data analysis on gender equality and women's empowerment, focusing on areas such as economic participation, leadership, and decision-making.
  • Assisting in the organization and facilitation of meetings and workshops related to gender issues.
  • Contributing to the drafting of various written outputs, including background papers, speeches, and presentations.
  • Providing substantive and administrative support for technical cooperation projects aimed at women's economic empowerment and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by the Chief of Section, which may vary based on the intern's background and the needs of the section.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to its ideals. Additionally, applicants should show the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and understanding of different opinions.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to have either completed or be enrolled in a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program. This educational background should ideally be in social sciences, gender studies, international relations, or a related field that aligns with the work of the United Nations and the specific focus of the internship.

Experience:
While no prior work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, candidates with experience in research, writing, and organizing workshops will be at an advantage. Experience related to gender equality and women's empowerment, particularly in the context of the care economy or entrepreneurship, is also beneficial. Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. The internship is unpaid, and interns are expected to cover their own costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses.
