Job Overview:
The internship position is within the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS) of the Social Development Division at ESCAP. The intern will support communications work related to gender equality and women's empowerment. The role is designed to provide practical experience in the field of social sciences, particularly in the context of gender issues. Interns will engage in various tasks that contribute to the overall mission of promoting gender equality and social inclusion, while also gaining insights into the workings of the United Nations and its initiatives. The internship is expected to last between 3 to 6 months, with a preference for candidates who can commit to a longer duration and who are willing to work onsite in Bangkok for part of their internship.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that may include drafting content for public information materials such as social media posts, website content, news stories, and blogs. They will also produce multimedia materials, including infographics, presentation slides, event flyers, backdrops, banners, and short videos. Conducting research and compiling information for reports is another key responsibility. Additionally, interns will assist in organizing and convening events such as commemorations, meetings, seminars, and workshops. They may also be required to assist with photography and video coverage during events. Other duties may be assigned by the Chief of Section as needed, providing a comprehensive learning experience in the field of gender equality and social inclusion.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. Additionally, applicants should have the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate different opinions and views.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in or completion of a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree program. This indicates that candidates should have a solid academic foundation in social sciences, gender studies, or a related field, which will enable them to contribute effectively to the work of the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section.

Experience:
While no prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, candidates with related practical experience in digital communication tools, social media platforms, graphic design, video editing, and production will be at an advantage. Experience in creating content for digital publishing, adapting briefing notes, press releases, and speeches for social media and websites is also beneficial. Strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to translate complex research into accessible language, and experience working on issues related to gender equality and women's empowerment are highly valued.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for the internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language or another language from the Asia-Pacific region is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader audience and contribute to the organization's goals.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of five days per week, totaling 37.5 hours. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member in the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section.
