Job Overview:
The Energy Efficiency Specialist will be responsible for the management and implementation of energy efficiency projects across various regions, including East Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa, and Southeast Asia. The role involves overseeing project coordination, ensuring effective communication among stakeholders, managing timelines and resources, and aligning project activities with established goals. The specialist will provide technical support and policy advice to governments, monitor project deliverables, and facilitate reporting and evaluation processes. This position requires a strong understanding of energy efficiency policies and the ability to engage with multiple partners to achieve project objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Energy Efficiency Specialist will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: overseeing the implementation of harmonized minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for refrigerators and air conditioners in collaboration with regional partners; providing project management support for the AGORA project in Nigeria; engaging with technical committees to advance regional harmonization efforts; identifying funding opportunities and assisting in the drafting of proposals; developing outreach materials to promote energy efficiency policies; participating in regional meetings and presenting project activities; and coordinating with communications teams to disseminate project outputs effectively. The specialist will also be responsible for addressing feedback from member states regarding MEPS and ensuring that project outcomes align with national and regional expectations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in energy or environmental policy, economics, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in energy policies and international development programs is required. Strong knowledge of energy situations and policies in ECOWAS, SADC, and EAC regions is essential, along with familiarity with the informational needs of decision-makers in energy-related organizations. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are necessary, as well as experience in developing outreach materials and coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in fields related to energy or environmental policy, international economics, or engineering/science. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of energy efficiency and environmental management.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 7 years of professional experience in energy policies and international development programs. This experience may include relevant internships and should demonstrate a strong understanding of energy efficiency and renewable energy policies, as well as experience in coordinating projects and engaging with various stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly languages relevant to the regions where the projects are implemented.

The position is home-based in Eswatini and is expected to last for 6 months. The role is part of a larger initiative funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and involves collaboration with various partners, including industry and civil society.
